South Africa Hit 408/5, Second Highest In Total World Cup

SYDNEY: South Africa made 408 for five against the West Indies on Friday, the second-highest World Cup total of all time.

In the process, South Africa captain AB de Villiers smashed the second-fastest World Cup Century off 52 balls in the Pool B game at the Sydney Cricket Ground before finishing on 162 not out.

The highest World Cup total is 413 for five made by India against Bermuda, a non-Test nation, in Trinidad in 2007.

The fastest ever World Cup century was made by Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien, off 50 balls, against England in Bangalore during the 2011 tournament.

“It was a very enjoyable knock today. The foundation from the boys at the start freed me up,” said de Villiers.

“I had a bit of luck here and there. I’m not a huge fan of setting targets but we had plans in place of reaching 300 halfway through the innings. This game is only half way and the only thing on my mind is winning it. We want to go and defend this total now.”

ICC World Cup 2015: Chris Gayle`s Record double ton as West Indies

Chris Gayle smashed the highest ever individual World Cup 2015 and his first century in 20 months as the West Indies flattened Zimbabwe on a record-shattering day in Canberra on Tuesday.

The Caribbean entertainers amassed 372 for two after winning the toss and then bowled Zimbabwe out for 289 chasing a revised 363 to win the rain-reduced match by 73 runs at Manuka Oval. Man-of-the-match Gayle, 35, clubbed a record equalling 16 sixes including three in a row, to cash in after a huge let-off on the first ball he faced and was eventually out of the final ball of the innings.

Gayle also eclipsed his previous highest one-day international knock of 153 not out against Zimbabwe in 2003. Records tumbled as Gayle, who also went past 9,000 ODI runs, bettered South African Gary Kirsten`s previous highest World Cup score of 188 not out against the UAE in Rawalpindi in 1996.

Only India`s Rohit Sharma with 264 and Virender Sehwag (219) have scored more runs than the explosive West Indian left-hander in an ODI innings.

Gayle`s 372-run partnership with Marlon Samuels (133 not out) was also an all-time ODI record. The 35-year-old Gayle`s double-century came off just 138 balls and this innings was his first three-figure score since he made 109 against Sri Lanka at his Sabina Park home ground Kingston in June 2013.

“It`s been a lot of pressure, the runs haven`t been coming and this is the first time ever in my career,” said Gayle during the mid-innings break.

“So many people wanted me to score runs and the messages kept coming in on Twitter and in the end I am glad to have given them something to actually cheer about,” he added after his 22nd century in 226 ODIs.

ICC World Cup 2015 Gayle turned around the West Indies innings with Samuels after the second-ball dismissal of fellow opener Dwayne Smith.

Samuels inninins was comparatively more sedate compared to Gayle`s whirlwind knock, his 133 not out coming off 156 balls with 11 fours and three sixes.But it could have all been different had Gayle not survived a very contentious review in his favour off the first ball he faced.

Tinashe Panyangara had a tremendous opening over, bowling Smith second ball and then looking most unlucky not to get Gayle out leg before wicket with his fourth delivery after a review.

Replays showed the ball hitting Gayle`s pads and he was initially given not out by umpire Steve Davis, only for Zimbabwe to seek a referral.

The TV umpire ruled umpire`s call, adjudicating the ball was going over the stumps, but Gayle looked fortunate to still be at the crease Cricket News.

“It was scary the first ball, it was like `come on, you`re not serious, you can`t be out first ball,`” Gayle said. “I needed a chance and I got a break and I made best use of it.

But the medical staff is overworked and may be at risk themselves. Three medicos at the hospital have already tested positive for swine flu.

Doctors say enough safeguards are in place, but as the hospital is swamped with cases, most of the 150 doctors at the civil hospital are working with barely any breaks.

“A sizeable number of patients who visit the OPD turn out to be affected by the virus so the pressure is much more, but we are working round-the-clock to ensure that they are taken care of,” Dr Solanki told NDTV.

Most cases of swine flu are reported too late for them to be treated in time, say doctors, claiming late diagnosis is the primary reason for the rising number of deaths.

But the government may also have reacted late to the growing crisis. Door-to-door surveys were launched just about a week ago, after the number of swine flu cases shot up; OPDs to handle swine flu cases were set up only 10 days ago.

Micromax announces Android Lollipop update for Canvas phones

Technology News Domestic devices maker Micromax has announced that the company will be rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its popular Canvas series of smartphones. Lollipop is the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system.

The Micromax Canvas Xpress A99 will be the first device in the portfolio to receive the software update, the company informed. 
Commenting on the development, a company spokesperson said, “As a brand, we are committed to keep our customers delighted with best in class technologies and experience. Riding on the same thought, we are today rolling out the Android L update with Canvas Xpress, making the overall user experience more efficient and seamless.”

The update has been rolled out OTA (over the air). Canvas Xpress users can follow the simple process to get the updates on their devices. Users will get an update notification on their handset when they connect it to the internet and following that they can directly upgrade to the latest OS. Users can also check manually for the upgrade by going to the Settings menu, tapping on ‘about phone’ and then on ‘software update.’

Samsung Galaxy Tab A And Galaxy Tab A Plus Specifications Leaked

It was reported last month that Samsung is working on a couple of new tablet lineups which will be released later this year. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A and Galaxy Tab A Plus are believed to be among the upcoming tablets and their purported specifications have been leaked online. Both are said to be mid-range tablets with the Galaxy Tab A Plus being Samsung’s first tablet outside of the Note series to come with the S Pen.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A and Galaxy Tab A Plus both will have 8-inch and 9.7-inch models. The smaller Tab A will have the same specifications as the smaller Tab A Plus, same goes with the larger Tab A and Tab A Plus.

You might be wondering about the difference between these two tablets. For starters the Galaxy Tab A Plus is said to come with the S Pen and it may have 2GB of RAM as opposed to 1.5GB on the Tab A.

The 8-inch models of these tablets are said to come with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 quadcore processor, 1,024×768 pixel resolution display with 4:3 aspect ratio, 2 megapixel front and 5 megapixel rear camera, 16GB on board storage and a 4,200mAh battery Smart Phone News.

9.7-inch models will have more or less the same specifications with the exception of a 1.2Ghz Qualcomm APQ8016 processor and 6,000mAh battery.

LTE and Wi-Fi only variants might be offered and the tablets are going to be just 7.4mm thin.  No word as yet on when Samsung plans on announcing these new tablets.
